The Road Back - Part 2
It's been just around a month we have been back living on board and it's been an adjustment. As with all "new" boats, there's always lots of gremlins to sort out to make everything work the way you want it. We had a few unexpected surprises, like needing a new diesel heater, replacing the LPG system (the stove had an annoying habit of not lighting when you really wanted to cook, and usually it was getting dark and beginning to rain!) There have been lots of little projects and some major like replacing the gearbox that turned into a much bigger job than originally thought. While I expected to have to replace it, despite the repeated assurance of the broker and the previous owner that the old was just fine, we found that waiting for the boat to go into reverse up to 2 minutes after shifting it was probably not a good idea. We've also been going through the normal process of stowing things in lockers then leaving them for awhile, stowing them in different lockers, then finally settling on where they should be after all and moving them again. We are almost there with getting everything where it should live. We actually left the dock last weekend for a short motor out of the marina to check out the new gearbox and just to say we left the dock. We found a few interesting new things to get used to, like the excessive prop walk to port and the fact that Cygnet is much faster than Tarun and glides A LOT further, of particular note when you are coming back to the dock. Cathy's comment was along the lines of "please stop the boat do I can get off and tie it up!" ((NOTE: probably different language was used at the time)). With luck, next weekend, weather permitting, we will get out for a sail.
