2017 - May the Farce Desert Us
How does the old curse go? May you be cursed to live in interesting times. As curses go, this is not too bad, but I've got to say, come on here there's interesting and then there's interesting. 2016 was an interesting year, no need to dwell further on that. But what will 2017 bring? For Cathy and I it started out on Bowen Island where we escaped to a couple of days ago. We got an amazing sunset on Friday evening, then a day of rain that turned to snow then freezing rain, followed by what we have learned is a "Squamish". This little gem is a 45 know outflow from Howe sound that has just enough twist in the wind to send some swell into the Union Steamship Marina. We are tucked in the back of the bay so its not too bad but the outside is a real rock and roll show. We took the wind broadside for the first half of the day until the marina staff suggested we move to a berth that would put is nose into the wind, much more comfortable now. We'll probably go home to Granville Is. tomorrow, a nice downhill run.
But back to the topic at hand, what will 2017 bring. I'm quite optimistic for us and Cygnet. The boat is in great shape. Still lots to do, but getting more manageable. We are going to try and NOT take on another expensive project this year, just smaller more management ones. Sailing is what we have to concentrate on now. Hopefully a trip north in the spring will work out this year but that depends on a lot of variables, work, life, etc. I just checked the roll gauge and we are rolling less 5 degrees just now, very comfortable. As for the rest of 2017, well, what will be will be. I plan to try and live peacefully, and spread that wherever and however I can. Not much else I can do at this point. The world is holding it breath as the soon to be leader of the "free" world blames computers for making life too complicated and we should go back to pen and paper. I really wish I was making this up but unfortunately I'm not. With a little luck we will all get through this in one piece, but I will not make the mistake of underestimating the damage that a complete fool can do.
Enough of the bad, go sailing, find a new anchorage, make some new friends, that sounds like a 2017 that I can relate to.
